A weekly
column for mothers
raising and teaching their children. Instructional, touching, and
funny
most mothers will find something of interest on this index. This
column
covers a variety of topics from home schooling to home management, from
temper
tantrums, to The Talk!
Remember When You
Were
Young and Dreamed of Babies?
When we were
young we cherished our dolls. Now we mother our babies.
They are a
joy, a comfort, a love beyond comprehension. They are also
extremely demanding of time and energy.
Continuous
Homeschool
or Life Breaks?
Guilt over
mid-year breaks in your homeschooling or when life interferes with the
schedule? Here is inspiring help!
Raising Children
You Think You've
Seen
Tantrums?
Feeling
overwhelmed by your little one? Pulling your hair over a
demanding and bossy child?
Frustrated beyond belief by a little angel who suddenly starts
screaming?
Yep. Been there. With nine children I have seen more
tantrums
than a stage director!
Bunny Day - A Delightful Tradition
Every year
somebody asks me, "As a Christian, what do you do about the secular
myth of the Easter
Bunny?" Read how our family rejoices in fun traditions and
reserves
time for tender and spiritual worship at the same time.
This is Normal?
Let's face
it. Boys are different from girls and to put it mildly, down
right weird!
Seminary - Must
We?
Every year I
am asked
by faithful LDS mothers faced with the new experience of LDS Seminary .
.
. Should we send our teens when they are learning so much of the gospel
here
at home? Must we enroll them in that High School Class?
Here
is my yearly response. I have also included Chamrie's letter to
such
a question. Chamrie is my third teen to graduate from Seminary
and
spent her last year on the Seminary council with a special personal
focus
on home taught teens.
Some Days Are Just Like That
New home
schooling mothers think other home schooling mothers have these
incredibly perfect days
all of the time. Take a look at an all too frequent reality!
What Were You Thinking?!?
Optional and
Sequential Thinking Patterns
Handout for
Home School Convention Communication Class
Two of the
many ways
the brain categorizes material and retrieves information are called
optional
and sequential patterns. People can develop competence in both
patterns
but usually we are most comfortable with one or the other. This
article
will help us understand how to prepare lessons or talks, shop, study,
perform
tasks and converse with others.
The Unschooling
Question
Home schooling
since 1985, I've tried lots of methods including Unschooling.
Here are my
thoughts on this emotional issue.
Expanding Our Family Circle
The Invitation
Habit
We are an
extremely social family and it shows in the every day use of our home
by an endless stream of friends.
Seminary -
Must
we? - LDS Article
Every year I
get a handful of emails from other LDS home schooling mothers asking my
thoughts on seminary. Seminary is the scripture study class
program for youth in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Marshall,
Our
Little Angel
The following
articles in order tell the story of our first baby, our son who was
born prematurely and died in my arms as I was being held by Neil.
It is a tender and inspiring story, not one for those who want to avoid
shedding a few tears.
